TGIF-But I Am Not Good Enough For Someone To Love Me

The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
Jeremiah 31:3 (KJV)

One of the great truths that one of my ministry mentors, Bishop David M Copeland, imparted to me, was that far too many people, especially women, will settle for a bad, unhealthily relationship rather than be alone. I have seen this truth played out more times than I can count.

I remember a women’s meeting in the local county jail when I was a Chaplain there. A woman heard this truth for the first time in her life. I saw the light come on in her eyes and she started to cry. “Why didn’t’ someone tell me this before?” she asked in tears. She had made a mess out of her life jumping from one unhealthily relationship to another trying to find affirmation and worth. She gave herself heart, body, and soul to men who used her and then moved on, leaving behind several kids whom they failed to support. She was broken and needed to be made whole through the mercy and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When people look to anyone or anything to bring meaning to their lives that only God can bring, they will always be disappointed and continue “looking for love in all the wrong places” to quote the 80s country music song. One writer said years ago that we are dying in a search for meaning in our lives and I would add we are often destroying ourselves and others in our wanderings.

God and God alone can bring lasting meaning and eternal love into our lives. ONLY… God can fill up the empty places in our hearts and he does so through the person of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. All else is temporal and will one day be destroyed by God’s fiery judgment. To quote a wonderful woman in my church, “you don’t see u-hauls at a cemetery.” Meaning, We bring nothing into this world and we will take nothing with us when we leave it behind.

If you are tired of the emptiness and brokenness in your life, I beg you to turn to Jesus. Call on him to come and clean up the mess in your life and make you a new creation in him. God’s word says that his love NEVER fails. Open your heart to him and come to know that unconditional, unfailing love today. Come to Jesus, he will never turn you away, never leave you and never forsake you.

“People Need The Lord”

Every day they pass me by I can see it in their eye
Empty people filled with care Headed who knows where
On they go through private pain Living fear to fear
Laughter hides the silent cries Only Jesus hears

People need the Lord People need the Lord
At the end of broken dreams, He’s the open door
People need the Lord People need the Lord
When will we realize People need the Lord

We are called to take His light To a world where wrong seems right
What could be too great a cost For sharing life with one who’s lost
Through His love, our hearts can feel All the grief they bear
They must hear the words of life Only we can share

In his matchless name.

Amen
