TGIF-Seeking Whom He May Devour

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

1 Peter 5:8(KJV)

Satan attacks God’s people in many different ways. He does not attack where we are strong, but rather it is always where we are careless, weak and vulnerable.

If you are ignorant of biblical truths, he will send a twisted, distorted interpretation of the word your way that will appeal to your fallen nature.

If you are a wounded saint, he will use something somebody did, said or wrote to target your woundedness and harm you and separate you from others.

If you are not diligent and careful in areas of your life, he will hit you there and sow havoc and harm.

One thing I have seen recently in a number of churches I know is his desire to sow discord among Gods people. He wants to engender anger, hurt feelings and division in any place he can and will use whoever and whatever he can to do so. A church divided against itself is a vulnerable church. It is a church that is focused internally rather than externally failing to spread Gods words of hope to the lost and hurting.

We have a very real enemy. He is cunning, powerful and devoted to destroying all that is from God. We must never underestimate his abilities nor his purposes. We must always remain on guard.

He also knows his time is limited. He knows that Christ defeated him at Calvary and his anger towards God and his people only grows as we draw closer to the return of our Lord:

And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

– Revelation 12:7-12 (NKJV)

I say this in warning about our adversary but we are not to fear him. We are not to fear he who can harm the body, rather we are to fear, reverence and hold in awe the one who can throw body and soul into hell.

The Bible tells us to “resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7.

So how do we resist? With the weapons of our warfare given to each Christian.

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;

– 2 Corinthians 10:4(KJV)

What are these weapons?

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

-Ephesians 6:10-18(KJV)

HOW FIRM A FOUNDATION

The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.

In Jesus high and holy name

Amen,

Wes Mason
