The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
-Luke 4:18

In 1989 a youth worker in an American church read a 19th century Book by an activist minister asking the question What Would Jesus Do? She decided to abbreviate it to WWJD and had some bracelets made to help her kids use them as tools in their walk with God and a way to get others to ask what WWJD means. It exploded into a huge movement during the 90s with T-Shirts, hats and other items having the WWJD motto.

The WWJD movement was well meaning but lacked a very important component, it can only be properly answered if you know WDJD-What Did Jesus Do. That requires a diligent study of the New Testament to know not only what he did in the Gospels when he walked the earth, but what he did in and through the life of the Apostles and 1st century Christians through the Holy Spirit as recorded in Acts and the epistles. A Christian needs to have a strong working knowledge of the Bible and the principles that the Lord revealed to his people under both the old and new covenants. This requires a lifelong commitment to both reading and studying his word. Sadly biblical ignorance and illiteracy is pandemic in the church and world today, so even answering the WDJD questions far too often goes unanswered as so many in the church know so very little.

This ignorance has led to a lack of a widespread biblical worldview as well as a lack of morals and ethics in the church. Into that vacuum, many none biblical and even anti-biblical worldviews are at work among those who call themselves Christians. I know of one Church where a church officer called the Bible a collection of stories and myths with no authority at all and berated the minister for preaching its truthfulness and authority. God bless that pastor, may the Lord reward him for his faithfulness.

Hosea 4:6 is a warning to Gods people: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

The lack of biblical knowledge, worldview and moral foundation in much of the population is seen each day in our news medias. Massive computer hackings, stealing information and sometimes holding someone’s systems hostage for money. Ethical corruption in business, politics, government, the military and sadly even the Church. Ministers falling due to sexual sin, greed, and avarice. Cheating and lying in schools at every level from Kindergarten to Grad School. Violence and crime are widespread with little regard for human life. All these are symptoms of the active presence of sin at work in the world with no knowledge of God, his word or will to help those affected. This lack of knowledge is destroying many lives in many terrible ways.

There is an answer to all of these problems, Jesus, and his revealed word:

Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
-2 Timothy 3:16-17

Without God’s word in our hearts and minds, we are ill-equipped to carry on the work of God’s Kingdom that he calls us all to. Without God’s word being a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path, we are walking in darkness at every level and falling over every obstacle and into every ditch.

We must once again become people of the bible!! May the Lord ignite a passion for his word to all who read this message and may we all know WDJD in all things so that we can help those lost, wandering and hurting souls in our lives and the world at large.

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said—
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?
“Fear not, I am with thee, oh, be not dismayed,
For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand.
