TGIF-WHEN PEOPLE ARE HURTING AND GOD USES YOU TO HELP

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the [physical and spiritual] captives and the opening of the prison and of the eyes to those who are bound,
-Isaiah 61:1

There is an old saying that time heals all wounds. I am here to say RUBBISH!! Time heals nothing!! The only true and lasting healing is found in Jesus Christ and him alone.

Let’s be honest, there are some events in our lives that we will never fully heal from this side of glory. Just ask someone who has buried a child of any age. When I was a teenager I went to a great uncle’s funeral. His mother, my Great Grandmother was in her 90s having been born in 1877. I clearly remember the sadness she had at the death of her son, she said no mother should outlive her child. He was the 3rd son that she had buried.

She would NEVER get over such a loss until she was reunited with him in glory a few years later.

Can we help the walking wounded in our lives?

Believe it or not, God has a plan to use our pain, suffering, and brokenness to help others through theirs.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.
-2 Corinthians 1:3-5

When we go through a difficult season of life, and we ALL do, God blesses us with comfort at some point during that time and then we have a tool that we can use to help others hurting like we have.

A cancer survivor can talk to a person suffering from cancer like no one else can. A spouse who has lost their mate and has adjusted to the loss can help someone who recently lost theirs. A parent who has lost a child and has come to grips with it can use the comfort they have been blessed with to help a newly grieving mother or father as they begin that pain filled journey. I know from personal experience that being helped by others in my loss, and then being blessed by God to help those who recently lost their child.

God has a plan for our lives. Part of that plan is to use you and me to bless others and help them as they deal with heartache and pain. May we share that which God has invested in our lives to invest in the lives of other.

In Jesus name

Amen
