TGIF-The Influence of our Prayers

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
-James 5:16 (KJV)

Do you have someone praying for you? Do you have people in your life that you pray for on a regular basis?

Prayer is one of the greatest untapped resources given to us by God for his church and his people. ( I am preaching to myself here saints) Prayer is as vital for God’s people as breathing is for our physical life yet it seems more like a chore rather than the opportunity to spend time with our heavenly father and bask in his holy presence.

Why? Well for many of us we are very distracted with the day to day life we live. Work, family, kids, hobbies, sports etc. take up so many of our waking hours. The electronic world of social media, net flicks, smartphone, program streaming also captures so much of our attention. Then there is the need for a good night’s sleep.

We find ourselves praying very little until something goes wrong and a crisis erupts. Then we knock, knock, knock on heaven’s doors and get everyone and their friends to join us until the crisis passes and very quickly we are back to our old ways.

Prayer must be a top priority for us. We MUST pray, and we MUST pray often. God uses the prayers of his people to accomplish his will in the earth.

Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16

Be bold when you approach the Lord, ask big and expect big but remember to seek HIS will in all things:

ye have not because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend it in your pleasures.
-James 4:3

This is the [remarkable degree of] confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that [a]if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us.
-1 John 5:14

I grew up watching my Grandma Mason spending time each morning at the kitchen table with her bible and devotional book open, praying and talking with Jesus. I am 100% convinced that years after her death in March of 1980, God was using her prayers for her family and loved ones to bless them and draw them close to himself.

Spend some time with the Lord and hopefully as you deepen in your faith, your desire to spend time in his presence, communing and communicating with your heavenly father will grow and deepen as well.

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

In Jesus name

Amen
