TGIF-Unto Everything There is a Season

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die….

-Ecclesiastes 3:1-2(KJV)

This morning I learned of the passing of an old English musical friend and influence. Dave was 75, a double lung transplant recipient and had battled a serious lung infection for almost 6 months. He was a world class fiddler and mandolin player that influenced generations of other musicians. He was always kind to me when we were together. I am saddened by his passing, so Please pray for Dave’s family.

But the saddest news of all for me is that he was not a believer in Jesus, the son of God. He was in fact cynical and hostile to most religious expressions. I have prayed often for his salvation and healing over the years but saw no evidence in his life that revealed any influence of Jesus. I hope and pray that I am very wrong.

I share this to remind us of the reality of eternity. All of us will have a time to die, all those we know and love do as well. None of us knows when that appointed day will come, and we would do well to live in light of that coming reality.

As Christians we have a mandate from our Lord to share his gospel to all people; Are we doing that? Are we praying for those we know who are outside of Gods kingdom of love and light to come to know Jesus as Lord and savior? Are we sharing his love, mercy, goodness and grace? Are we warning people of the reality of heaven and hell and that Jesus taught that he was the ONLY way to our heavenly father? Or are we too afraid of rejection; do we fear the opinions of man more than we value the will and word of God for us?

Everyone will one day stand before the Lord to give an account for the way we have lived. For those who trusted in the Lord and called on his name, our service to him will be judged for our rewards, but our place in heaven is secure because of his mercy and saving grace. I ask myself, did I do enough, did I let Dave down?

To those who have rejected him, they will stand condemned in their sins, eternally separated from all that is good, righteous, and Holy. For those who have never heard of Him because we failed in our responsibility to share the Gospel with them, they are in the hands of the judge of all the earth who always do that which is right.

I have shared this before but think it needs to be read again, from Steve Green:
Every day they pass me by,
I can see it in their eyes.
Empty people filled with care,
Headed who knows where? On they go through private pain, Living fear to fear.
Laughter hides their silent cries,
Only Jesus hears.

People need the Lord; people need the Lord.
At the end of broken dreams, He’s the open door.
People need the Lord, people need the Lord.
When will we realize, people need the Lord?

We are called to take His light
To a world where wrong seems right.
What could be too great a cost
For sharing Life with one who’s lost?

Through His love our hearts can feel
All the grief they bear.
They must hear the Words of Life
Only we can share.

People need the Lord, people need the Lord
At the end of broken dreams, He’s the open door.
People need the Lord, people need the Lord.
When will we realize that we must give our lives,
For people need the Lord.

People need the Lord.

May we seek the Lord’s power and purpose to share Jesus everywhere, every time, and with everyone we can.

In his name
